Dental Implants are a modern alternative to removable partials and dentures while maintaining a natural-looking restoration that will last a lifetime. The procedure for dental implants is comprised of two stages: placement of the replacement tooth root followed by placement of the tooth replacement (crown). Typically, the first stage will take place at your dental specialist’s office while the placement of your crown will take place at our Downingtown Dental office.
The first portion of the procedure is done at your specialist’s office. The gum covering the area is gently folded back and the underlying bone prepared to receive the implant. The extent of the bone preparation is dependent on the number of implants required. The implant(s) are then placed, and the gum sutured. The implant should fully integrate into the bone after 3 to 6 months. A custom-designed crown is then fitted over the post.
