Digital Radiography

Digital radiography produces enhanced images of the patient’s teeth, gums, and overall oral conditions. Not only does this technology have nearly 80% less radiation exposure than a standard X-ray, making it significantly healthier for you, but it gives us a closer look at your mouth, so we can pinpoint exactly what we can do to make your smile healthier and brighter, and get you closer to optimum oral health. Some advantages of digital radiography include:

  • Healthier for the patient

Intraoral Camera | Downingtown Family Dentistry

Intraoral Camera

The intraoral camera is an innovative tool that offers high resolution footage and images of various angles of the patient’s mouth. The quality of the camera gives dentists the ability to get a detailed look of your mouth, so we can evaluate if any issues are present and act efficiently.  The images that these tools provide can give insight to insurance companies that will help you gain procedure acceptance, so you can save money and we can bring you one step closer to a lifetime of oral health. Benefits of an intraoral camera include:

  • 0-90 degree rotation
  • LED light
  • Impressive magnification ability

In-Office Shade Matching

Downingtown Family Dentistry offers in-office shade matching. Typically for aesthetic cases, or to get something to match just right, we work with a lab that will come to the office in order to custom stain crowns while the patient is in the chair.

Conscious Sedation | Downingtown Family Dentistry

Nitrous Sedation

Nitrous sedation, otherwise known as “laughing gas,” is a local anesthetic used to reduce patients’ pain during more invasive procedures while still allowing them to communicate discomfort to dentists or oral surgeons. The local anesthetic is breathed in by the patient through a mask which dispenses the gas. The mask is secured onto the patient’s face during the procedure, as the effects of the anesthetic begin to wear off once the mask is removed. Nitrous sedation provides patients with a safe, effective, and easy way to eliminate pain, which reduces anxiety in regards to the procedures themselves. Possible side effects of nitrous sedation include light headedness, tingling in the arms or legs, and a feeling of heaviness in the arms or legs. The anesthetic is ultimately used for the comfort of the patient, while allowing the dentist or oral surgeon the opportunity to ensure the procedure ends with the best results possible.

Rotary Endodontics

Rotary endodontics are used mainly for the extraction of infected nerve tissue in the mouth, which is otherwise known as a root canal. While the traditional method of filing the teeth has produced quite a few horror stories from patients who received a root canal, rotary endodontics is a modern approach to the procedure. The specific tool used for rotary endodontics is made of nickel titanium, which is a flexible metal. The flexibility of the tool creates fewer complications as a result of its adaptability to curved root canals. There are fewer complications, and the procedure occurs quickly, quietly, and smoothly. The improvement of this method over the traditional one results in a more efficient way to perform a root canal, eliminating the pain caused by the damaged tissue.
